How the pros run it

Load off the pan, wipe on the pan

the mud pan's rim cleans the blade every return stroke, and a clean edge is a ridge-free pass. Steer by bow: center pressure crowns the blade slightly; corner-biased pressure feathers that edge. Guard the edge: a nicked or crumb-loaded edge tram-lines every stroke — dress a dinged edge flat or retire it. Carbon care: wash and dry the moment you're off the wall; a wiped-and-dried carbon blade outlives its stainless cousin, a neglected one pits. Because the 4" is narrow, it's also the knife people abuse as a spreader and mixer — it survives it, but a gouged edge finishes worse than a clean one.

Why start with a 4" and not a 6"?
The tape coat and inside corners want the 4"'s concentrated pressure and corner reach; the 6" takes over for fastener fields and general work. Most kits carry both.
Does it set drywall nails?
No — that's the Hammer Head® version (02570). This blade has a plain butt.
Carbon or stainless?
Carbon (this) for a keener tunable flex you must dry; stainless (01540) for zero maintenance.
Can I use it in an inside corner?
Yes — it's the corner width. Coat one face per coat and it won't crack.
