Pump, don't press

A deep nap is a paint pump: it works by ferrying volume into a hungry surface, not by force. Pressing a 3/4" cover into texture floods the peaks, flings spatter as the long fibers whip off, and can drive the fine filaments against exactly the kind of surface that shreds them.
