At half an inch it would take all day to spread contact cement across a countertop or lay stripper on a door — that work belongs to the 2″ and up (80153–80155).
It cannot lay a showing finish coat (loose bristle, brush marks, shedding), and it is a poor latex brush (natural bristle limp in water).
And it is not an artist's brush: for fine color touch-up on a finished surface where the repair must be invisible, the pointed synthetic artist brushes (80011–80017) are the tool — the 1/2″ chip is for the aggressive, throwaway placement of glue, flux, and solvent, not for careful color.
a narrow bundle holds little and is meant to — dip the tips, wipe one side, and place. Reach into, not over: the point of a 1/2″ brush is to get flux, glue, or stripper onto the inside of a socket, slot, or profile, so angle the bristle into the recess rather than dragging across its mouth. One material, then gone: flux, epoxy, and stripper each get a fresh brush; cross-contaminating flux into glue or stripper into a finish ruins the work, and the brush is too cheap to justify the risk. Disposal: flux, solvent, and oil-soaked bristle follow the same rule as the wide chips — dry flat and separated, or drown in a sealed metal can; never wad a solvent-laden brush in a bag.

Is this the right brush for soldering flux?
Yes — a 1/2″ chip fits a copper fitting, lays flux inside the socket, and is thrown away after; brighten the metal first with a mini wire brush (§2a).
Can I glue with it?
It is a small-scale glue and epoxy applicator — into slots, mortises, cracks, and joints, then binned before the adhesive cures (§2b).
Why not just use a 2″ chip for everything?
A 2″ face won't fit a fitting, a mortise, or a single molding bead; the half-inch exists for the point work the wide brushes can't reach (§5).
Will it shed into my joint?
When new, yes — break it in first (drag, flex, pull the loose bristle), which matters more at this size than at any other (§2e).
Latex or fine touch-up?
Neither is its job — natural bristle is limp in water, and invisible color repair belongs to the artist brushes (§4).
