Match the blade to the mouth

Six inches of straight blade, measured, is the whole compatibility test — do it before you carry, not after the knife works loose. Sheathe clean and dry. Put a knife away dry: sheathing a damp high-carbon blade traps moisture against the steel, and carbon rusts overnight — the sheath protects the edge, but only a wiped-dry blade stays rust-free inside it. Draw and seat deliberately. With no snap, the knife is held by fit alone; seat it fully so the edge is covered, and draw straight so the edge doesn't work the mouth. The sheath serves the maintained-blade model. This is the carry half of the heritage wing's whole premise — a knife you sharpen and keep for years needs its edge protected between uses, which is exactly what the utility line's snap-and-discard blades never require. The 56500 exists because the knives it carries are worth keeping keen.

What knives fit the 56500?
Straight blades up to 6" — the numbered square points (#1–#6), the thin skiver (55170), the English shoe knife (55500), and full-size square points to 6". Measure the blade, not the whole knife.
Does the #3 Sole skiver or an 8" square point fit?
No — the #3 Sole (55190) is 6-3/4" and the 8" square points exceed the 6" limit. A blade longer than the sheath rides proud and isn't safely covered.
What's the difference between the 56500 and the 56505?
The snap. The 56500 has none (fast draw, bench and standing work); the 56505 adds a snap strap for retention when you kneel, climb, or ride in a vehicle.
Is it real leather?
No — it is heavy-duty simulated leather with rivet-reinforced stitching. Rugged and synthetic. (The utility-knife pouches 42520/42525 are the top-grain leather items.)
Can I carry the hook knife in it?
No — the hook knife (67090) needs its shaped sheath, the 42700. A straight sheath can't safely hold a hooked blade.
