Is this the right tool for your job?

DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Hard efflorescence, rust, and the most stubborn set deposits — brass is too soft; step to the stainless 46812 (with a test patch).
  • Broad flat scrubbing — the 5/8" grout face is narrow by design; a wide field wants a scrub block or a stripping brush.
  • Aggressive paint/scale stripping on steel — that's steel-fill work; brass is the gentle cutter, not the heavy one.
  • Applying anything — it's a cleaning/removal tool.

How the pros run it

01

The whole game is stay in the joint

Track the brush along the grout line so the wire works the raked profile and doesn't scrub the tile faces — a grout brush that wanders spends its energy (and its potential scratches) on the glaze. Use light-to-moderate pressure and let the fine wire cut; with brass, leaning does little except wear the soft wire out faster, since brass won't out-muscle a deposit the way steel would. Let a cleaner soften the deposit and re-apply rather than forcing dry. Brass wears faster than steel and won't touch heavy rust or the hardest efflorescence — if it feels like it's "not working," the job may have needed the stainless brush (46812), not more pressure on the brass.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Brass or stainless grout brush?
Brass (this one) is safer on glazed tile and cuts moderate stains; stainless (46812) is more aggressive for stubborn grout but can score soft glaze. Start with the softer brush.
Will it scratch my tile?
Brass is softer than most glazes, so it's low-risk — but any wire can mark a very soft or crazed glaze, so keep it in the joint and test in a hidden spot if unsure.
It's not cutting my stain — is it worn out?
Maybe the job needs steel, not more brass. Try the stainless 46812 (test patch first).
Can I use it on hardware and wood detail too?
Yes — that's a real strength; fine brass cleans profiles and plating without gouging.
