CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Wall repair — despite being the one spatula wider than a putty knife.
  • No spackling, no patching, no nail holes: the handle is not behind the blade and the blade is not shaped to press and feather across a surface (see 5, first bullet — this is the page's load-bearing boundary).
  • Not whole-gallon or pail remixing — paddle and drill-mixer territory.
  • Not rim channels, not pin holes — the exclusions above.
  • Not scraping paint off buildings; nothing in this line scrapes anything but container walls and mixing boards.

How the pros run it

01

Grip

full-handle — this rung does the line's only leverage work; choke toward the blade for color reads and dab placement, slide back for bottom-scraping and board-kneading. Contact: load the spring to full wall contact and no further; an inch of over-pressed blade lifts at the tip and stripes the wipe. Depth work: in deep containers, angle so the blade leads and the handle trails the rim — the reach is only useful if your hand stays out of the paint. The rag ritual: bare steel between colors, before every cure window, at day's end. Care: alloy unstated — run the carbon ritual, wipe dry after every wet session; the riveted hardwood scales ask nothing more than the same rag, which is what that build is for.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
It's wider than the 3/4" putty knife — can it fill nail holes?
No. Worlds boundary, not width boundary: no handle mass behind the blade, no pressing geometry. Nail holes → 02005 and the putty-knife ladder.
Will it stir a gallon?
It conditions, adjusts, and scrapes down a gallon; bringing a settled gallon fully back to one phase is the 47050 paddle's job. Quarts and small cans it stirs properly — that is its core duty (2b).
Why can't I use it on can rims and pin holes like the other sizes?
The inch of blade is the answer — it won't enter a rim channel and it drags haze across the finish around a pin hole. Those are the narrow rungs' jobs by design (see the exclusions in section 2).
Can I mix epoxy and two-part filler with it?
As spatula-class practice, yes, and this is the line's best rung for it (2d) — noting that Hyde publishes no material rating beyond paint.
Is the blade flexible? Will it rust?
Spring steel, hardened and tempered, per Hyde — flexible in substance ("flexible blade" is a distributor's word ). Alloy unstated — wipe it dry like carbon after wet work.
How long is it?
A distributor lists 10" overall — the longest in the line — but the figure is retailer-observed, not a Hyde claim; approximate until measured.
Spatula or wooden stir stick for a quart?
The stick's round belly polishes the settled layer in place and keeps a share of everything in its grain. The sprung flat shears the bottom clean, gives its load back, and wipes to bare steel.
