Is the blade acrylic or polycarbonate?
Polycarbonate — Hyde's catalog says polycarbonate and Hyde's video says LEXAN®, a polycarbonate brand; "acrylic" in the store title is loose trade parlance for the clear-blade class and is chemically a different plastic . Polycarbonate is the tougher, more flex-tolerant material, which is why it's the right one.
18 or 24 inches?
Walls, rooms, repairs, perimeter, first knife: 18. Open production ceilings with the fewest laps: 24. Length is the only difference Hyde claims.
Do I need the hopper gun?
For a true knockdown finish, yes — this knife only flattens what a gun (the 09980) has sprayed. It applies nothing by itself.
How long do I wait before knocking?
Until the sheen falls — no honest number of minutes exists, because humidity, temperature, and mix decide. Test a corner blob: smears means wait, flattens clean means go (2a).
Will it work on an extension pole?
Yes — the soft-grip handle is Acme-threaded for any standard pole, and Hyde's video notes it works with or without one.
Can I scrape off my old popcorn ceiling with it?
No — Hyde bars these knives from popcorn removal outright, and a pre-1980s acoustic ceiling is a test-first asbestos question before any tool touches it (2b, 4).
What does "reduces drying time for texturing" mean?
It's Hyde's claim, quoted here ; the mechanism isn't published. The trade-level reading is that knocked-down mesas are far thinner than standing blobs, and thinner dries sooner — but that reading is ours, not the claim's.
