Let the flex do the packing and the cutting

A flexible blade fills when you press it into a cavity and finishes when you draw it nearly flat so it bows over the spot. Two motions — press in, wipe off — cover most household repairs. Keep the angle low on the finishing wipe so you cut the compound flush instead of dragging it out.
