Stiff Carbon Steel Blade: blade hardened for durability and effective scraping.
Ergonomic Handle: Designed for comfort and ease of use.
The Value Series™ Carbon Steel Stiff Scrapers offer a cost-effective solution for tough scraping tasks.
✕DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
Production and career use. No Hammer Head®, no overmold, no full-tang, no lifetime warranty — Hyde scopes it to light or one-time work, and buying it for all-day professional scraping is scoping it wrong. Step up to a Pro Project™ or Black & Silver® blade.
Filling and finishing. Stiff blade, no flex, no apply role. Its own flexible Value sibling (04352) is the joint-knife-pattern fill tool; this one only removes.
Broad fields. At 1-1/2" it is slow over wide area; the 3" Value (04401) covers more at the same scope.
Striking and prying. No striking boss and no lever design — don't hammer it or pry with it.
How the pros run it
01
Grip and angle
the molded ergonomic handle in the palm, low angle 15–30°, shear rather than dig. Pressure-per-inch: the 1-1/2" width concentrates force — use it on the local, hard spot, not the broad field. Edge care within scope: it is carbon, so it takes and loses a keen edge; dress it on a file if you own one, but the tool doesn't presuppose a career of filing — that expectation lives in the Pro and Black & Silver® lines. Rust: carbon — a dry wipe after wet work keeps the bloom off, though the throwaway-scope tool often just gets used and retired. Match the tool to the job: the single most important technique with a value tool is honest scope — the moment the work outgrows "light or one-time," step up.
Asked at the counter
BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
Is this a "cheap" tool?
It's the value-scope tool — a real carbon stiff blade Hyde scopes to "light tasks or one-time use." For those jobs it's the right buy; for daily pro work, size up.
04151 or the 3" 04401?
Narrow for tight, local, one-off spots → 04151; wider for a light job with broad area → 04401.
04151 or the Pro 06151, both 1-1/2"?
The Pro adds a Hammer Head®, overmold, and career build. If you'll use it past this job, the 06151 earns it; for one-time work, the 04151 is honest.
Can I fill a hole with it?
No — it's stiff and it strips. The flexible 04352 applies compound; this one doesn't.
Lead paint?
The RRP and lead rules apply regardless of the tool's price — pre-1978 coats, wet methods, containment, HEPA cleanup, certification for paid work — inherited line-level boundary, not re-verified here.
Will it rust?
Yes, it's carbon — wipe it dry after wet work. Many buyers simply retire it after the one job.
