  • Electrocoated Blade: Enhances rust prevention for extended durability.
DO NOT FORCE THE FIT
  • Filling, flat in-line work, flat shave-scraping, and heavy demolition.
  • As a stiff blade it doesn't fill or feather — that's the flexible knives' job (the 1-1/4" 02000).
  • Its bend, so useful on horizontal leverage pulls, is a liability where you actually want the blade in line with your hand — scraping a vertical wall flush, or working a surface where the offset holds the edge at the wrong angle; there the flat 02050 (same width and steel) is correct.
  • It isn't a flat-riding chisel for shaving specks without gouging (that's the 02200/01240 chisels).
  • And it is not built for heavy, two-handed, demolition-grade floor and deck stripping — that's the brass-riveted 3" XHD bent 12010, triple the width and built like a farm tool.

How the pros run it

01

Understand the geometry before you pull

the 20° offset converts down-pressure into edge-lift and holds your hand clear — so the stroke is set the low angle, weight down through the handle, pull toward you, and let the bend pry the coating up. Long pulls, not short pokes: the bent blade rewards long, steady, leveraged strokes along a horizontal surface; that's its whole reason to exist. Get under, then lift: work the edge beneath a lifted margin first, then use the leverage — driving a bent blade straight at an intact film just skips. Mind the electrocoating: it's what keeps this carbon blade from rusting on wet, exposed work, so don't grind or file it off needlessly; dress the working edge when it dulls, but preserve the coating on the faces. It's still carbon under the coat: wipe it dry after wet outdoor work — the electrocoat protects, but good habits protect better. Not a wrecking bar: the 02070 pries at detail scale; heavy two-handed floor demolition is the 3" XHD 12010's job.

Asked at the counter

BUYER QUESTIONS ANSWERED BEFORE THE CART, NOT AFTER THE RETURN
What does the 20° bend actually do?
Two things: it lifts your knuckles off the surface on long flat pulls, and it turns your down-pressure into prying lift at the edge — so it peels coatings off sills, thresholds, and floors better than a flat blade.
02070 or the flat 02050?
Same width and steel; bent vs. flat. Bent for horizontal leverage pulls and knuckle clearance; flat for in-line scraping, caulk joints, and flush vertical work.
What's "electrocoated" and why does it matter?
An applied rust-prevention coating on the carbon blade — a middle path between bare carbon (needs oiling) and stainless (softer edge). It suits the wet, exposed sill-and-floor work this knife is built for.
Can I strip a whole porch floor with it?
The edges and detail, yes; the broad field, no — step up to the 3" bent XHD 12010 for two-handed floor demolition.
Lead paint on old sills?
Very likely in pre-1978 buildings — use RRP containment and wet methods on these high-contact surfaces.
