Controlling rule: the current use-and-care manual for the exact appliance model controls whether a blade is allowed and, if so, the permitted scraper or holder, blade, surface state, cleaner, PPE, cleanup, return to service, numeric angle, dwell, temperature or pass limit, conflicting direction or method, and warranty boundary. Once the exact conventional branch and every gate pass, Section 7 supplies bounded Tier-1 qualitative handling only where the manual is silent. “Single-edge razor blade” labeling does not prove cooktop suitability, and that method is not Hyde product fact.
Why the model gate is real: manufacturer guidance is not uniform even within one brand. Those pages prove divergence, not permission for another model.
Job: remove an identified, mechanically removable cooked-on deposit from an exact ceramic-glass cooktop whose current manufacturer instructions expressly authorize a blade scraper, then remove the residue and cleaner, inspect the surface and appliance boundaries, and return the cooktop to service only under those instructions.
Difficulty: low-force hand work after a high-consequence identity decision. The difficult part is proving that the black or clear surface is the blade-compatible face the manual describes, not coated glass, a specialty finish, a control layer, a damaged top, or a mark within the material.
Pack count is the only established difference relevant here.

Identify the appliance before diagnosing the stain
Find the appliance model number at its prescribed location without lifting, opening, disconnecting, or disassembling the cooktop. Match the complete model and revision. Obtain the current use-and-care manual, cleaning supplement, and warranty from the manufacturer or official appliance record; generic brand guidance, neighboring-model video, retailer answer, or blade package cannot replace them.
Read the whole cooktop-care section, including warnings before and after the cleaning table. Extract these answers before assembling a scraper:
What does the manufacturer call the exposed surface and finish?
Does the exact manual permit a blade scraper at all?
If yes, does it require a named scraper, holder, kit, blade type, or replacement part?
What control-off, lockout, shutdown, residual-heat, cool, warm, or spill-specific state does it require?
What cleaner and applicator does it permit, and what products does it prohibit?
What angle, motion, direction, pressure, sequence, and work area does it state or illustrate?
What does it say about sugary spills, melted material, foil, plastic, metal marks, scratches, discoloration, and ordinary burned food?
What does it require for controls, seams, trim, ventilation, PPE, cleanup, drying, disposal, service, warranty, and return to use?
If proof of blade permission, surface/residue eligibility, cool and de-energized state, cleaner/holder/blade fit, representative-area testing, or conflict resolution is missing, ask the manufacturer for exact-model direction; do not borrow another cooktop’s method. After those gates pass, silence only about numeric angle or stroke detail does not deadlock an authorized conventional branch: Section 7 may operate, subject to any conflicting exact-model wording or illustration. “Ceramic glass” does not disclose coating, print, anti-scratch treatment, controls, trim, or warranty condition.
Diagnose the mark without using steel as the test
Work in revealing light and the manual-required state. Remove cookware and loose objects only as allowed; never energize a zone for inspection.
Classify the observation before deciding it is removable residue:
Proud cooked-on deposit: material sits on the working face and has a visible edge or thickness. It may qualify for the manual’s burned-residue branch.
Thin cleaner or food film: a haze or smear changes as the manufacturer-approved cloth or cleaner passes over it. This is a cleaning branch, not automatically a blade branch.
Metal transfer or mineral mark: a flat discoloration can resemble a scratch or burned food. Use the manual’s mark-specific procedure; a blade is not a diagnostic shortcut.
Scratch or abrasion: a line remains after approved cleaning and appears in raking light without a removable edge. Scraping cannot put glass back.
Pit, chip, spall, or missing finish: the surface has lost material. Stop mechanical cleaning and obtain manufacturer service direction.
Crack: any continuous fracture, branching line, edge crack, impact star, or line that changes with viewing angle is a no-cleaning and no-use stop. Do not press, wet, scrape, heat, or “test” it.
Coating, print, or finish change: color, gloss, rainbowing, clouding, or a lighter/darker patch may be damage within the exposed finish rather than something on it.
Unknown mark: if the mark cannot be resolved into the exact manual’s categories, leave it untouched and ask the manufacturer or authorized service provider.
Do not diagnose with a blade corner, fingernail, abrasive, solvent, heat, or improvised chemical. Use only the manual-permitted nonmetal step. Record pre-existing scratches, chips, finish changes, control defects, and edge damage.
Apply the hard-stop gates
Surface and damage stops
Do not scrape cracked, chipped, pitted, spalled, edge-damaged, delaminated, coated, printed, textured, or unidentified material, or cross graphics, markings, controls, displays, borders, seams, gaskets, caulk, trim, frames, or edge treatment unless the exact manual expressly includes it.
If the cooktop has a manufacturer-named coating or easy-clean/anti-scratch finish, use only that finish’s current instructions. The word *glass* does not remove the coating from the working face. Whirlpool’s WipeClean™ warning demonstrates the consequence: a brand’s conventional ceramic-glass scraper method cannot be carried onto its coated cooktop.
Heat and electrical stops
Set every control to the state required by the exact manual. Use the appliance’s control lock only if and as its instructions direct. Treat a hot-surface indicator, cooling fan, display, or other status signal according to the exact model’s manual; do not treat the absence of a light as an independent temperature measurement.
No universal “cool,” “warm,” or hot-spill method is authored. Manuals may separate cooled residue from a warm-spill branch, require a cool surface, or prohibit scraping a specialty finish. Without express authorization for the present state, wait, prevent use, and obtain direction. Never energize a zone, add heat, or reheat a cooled spill to recreate a procedure.
Stop if liquid entered controls, a display, vent, seam, gasket, trim joint, wiring, or the underside; a control will not turn off or lock; a heat indicator is abnormal; or glass is cracked. Follow the exact shutdown/service procedure—never improvise unplugging, breaker work, disassembly, drying heat, or an operational test. The exact model decides safe isolation and may require immediate switch-off and no further use for broken glass.
Chemistry, PPE, and warranty stops
Unless the exact manual permits it for this surface and residue, use no cleaner, lubricant, soap, vinegar, baking soda, ammonia product, abrasive, solvent, powder, pad, polish, or mixed chemistry. Follow the label and applicable SDS. The appliance manual controls surface compatibility; cleaner instructions control application, hazards, PPE, ventilation, dwell, cleanup, and disposal. Neither weakens the other.
Read the current warranty before work and preserve its exclusions. A successful hidden test does not rewrite a warranty or authorize a prohibited blade.
Protect controls, trim, and the surrounding appliance
Define three zones before any cleaner or holder approaches the top:
Working field: only the manufacturer-authorized ceramic-glass area containing the qualified deposit.
No-blade perimeter: controls, printed features, frames, trim, seams, sealants, gaskets, edges, chips, and every surface not expressly admitted by the manual.
No-liquid entry points: any opening, control boundary, display edge, vent, trim joint, appliance seam, or perimeter the manual tells the owner to keep dry.
Use only protection compatible with the appliance and cleaner. Do not invent tape, film, towels, edge guards, or sprayed barriers: they can lift print, trap heat, or wick cleaner into seams. Preserve any instruction to apply cleaner to a pad or cloth rather than spray; never direct cleaner toward controls or rely on runoff.
Keep the scraper wholly inside the working field. If its body, blade corner, or motion cannot clear a control or trim boundary, use the manual’s nonmetal method or authorized service for that margin. A clean center with a cut perimeter fails.
Qualify the scraper, holder, and Hyde blade as one assembly
A loose Hyde blade is not the tool. Use only an appliance-authorized, purpose-designed holder under its current instructions; no bare-blade handling or scraping.
Proceed only if all of the following are proved:
the exact cooktop manual permits a blade scraper on this exact surface and residue;
it identifies or describes an acceptable scraper/holder and blade system;
the current holder instructions permit replacement and state how to install, seat, retain, expose, safe, and remove the blade;
an authoritative fit relationship proves that Hyde 13110 or 13120 is compatible with that holder and with the appliance procedure;
the installed assembly can remain inside the qualified field without crossing controls, trim, print, coating, damage, or a no-liquid boundary.
Hyde evidence establishes blade pattern, .009-inch thickness, “industrial-quality steel” wording, individual wrapping, and package count—not blade dimensions, back construction, edge grind, alloy, holder fit, cooktop compatibility, or appliance approval. “Standard single-edge” still does not prove holder fit. Never trim, bend, grind, de-spine, shim, tape, creatively clamp, or partly seat a blade.
Inspect the package and blade through the prescribed loading process. Reject anything identified as damaged, contaminated, dull, nicked, corroded, bent, loose, uneven, or incorrectly seated. Never touch-test, sharpen, dress, or assess an uncertain edge on the cooktop. Stop if the holder cannot be loaded and safed exactly as directed.
Choose between the two graph products by quantity only: 13120 is one 5-pack; 13110 is two 5-packs. No cutting, safety, finish, compatibility, or cooktop-performance difference is established between them.
Run the manufacturer-authorized cleaning branch first
Many apparent scraping jobs resolve under the exact cleaner procedure. Follow its cleaner, amount, placement, applicator, dwell or no-dwell, temperature, residue removal, and repeat steps without importing a generic pre-soak or cream-first rule.
Keep cleaner inside the working field. Stop for finish or print change, spread under trim, seam entry, unexpected odor/reaction, or a failed prescribed test; follow the label and appliance manual without adding chemistry.
Escalate to the blade branch only when the exact manual assigns this exact residue to scraping and all gates above remain passed. A stain that merely survived cleaning is not automatically a blade-compatible deposit.
Scrape only inside the authorized manufacturer branch
Tier-1 qualitative method — application craft, not Hyde product fact
This method becomes available only after the exact appliance/model/manual expressly permits the conventional blade-scraper branch; the surface is in its required cool, de-energized state; the authorized cleaner, holder, and blade fit are proved; and the manual’s representative-area test and every preceding damage, boundary, and preparation gate pass. It does not authorize a warm- or hot-spill branch. Exact appliance instructions still control any numeric angle, cleaner, dwell, temperature, pass limit, direction conflict, PPE, cleanup, return to service, and warranty.
Prepare the exact state and a stable stance. Reconfirm the cool, de-energized condition, controls/lock, approved cleaner state, PPE, surrounding protection, and passed representative area immediately before contact. Stand in a stable, supported position from which the whole short pass and exclusion boundary remain visible; do not reach across a hot zone, control, or blade path.
Use the authorized holder grip and exclude the off hand. Grip only the authorized holder as its instructions require. Keep the off hand and every other body part outside the blade path and working field; never brace the glass or hold residue near the edge.
Present the edge qualitatively. Set the blade nearly flat to the admitted field, with the full working edge supported and no corner leading. Do not turn a corner into a pick or concentrate the load on one point. If the exact appliance instructions state or illustrate a numeric angle or a different presentation, they control.
Make one light-start, short, one-direction pass. Start with light hand force and move the supported full edge once through only the softened, manufacturer-authorized raised residue. Follow any exact-model direction; where the manual names no direction, choose one clear direction that stays inside the field and away from controls, print, trim, seams, coating, and damage. Never pry, saw back-and-forth, strike, jab, chisel, rock, twist, or scrape dry where the appliance procedure requires product.
Lift, clear, wipe, and inspect. Lift the holder clear before resetting. Remove released material and wipe by the approved method; never sweep crumbs with the blade. Inspect the worked section and assembly for a new scratch, line, haze, chip, pit, crack, coating/print change, corner dig, contamination, looseness, or control/boundary change.
Repeat only after readback passes. Make another short one-direction pass only when the scratch/haze/chip/crack/coating/control readback is unchanged, the edge remains fully supported, the residue remains authorized and properly softened, and every gate still passes. Reconfirm the exclusion boundary as the deposit shrinks; a last fragment beside print, trim, a seam, coating, controls, or damage is not permission to cross it.
Stop immediately for a new line, scratch, chip, pit, haze, rainbow, gloss or color change, coating or print lift, gritty or ticking feedback, chatter, edge catch, corner dig, rising resistance, holder movement, blade contamination, or a residue that smears instead of releasing. Safe the tool. Do not correct a stop signal with more pressure, a steeper or flatter guessed angle, another direction, a heavier blade, a sharper corner, more cleaner, a solvent, or heat.
Remove residue and inspect before repeating
Collect deposit and remove cleaner exactly as the manual directs, keeping particles out of controls, seams, trim, vents, gaskets, and perimeter. Change approved cleaning material before it redeposits grit or residue; never sweep crumbs with the blade.
Inspect under manufacturer-required conditions, then normal and raking light when cleanup permits. Compare with an untouched clean area:
no proud authorized deposit remains in the completed section;
no new straight line, random scratch, chip, pit, haze, rainbow, color shift, gloss change, print disturbance, or coating change appears;
cleaner and crumbs are absent from the field and excluded boundaries;
the holder remains correctly seated and safe;
controls, indicators, seams, trim, and perimeter remain in their pre-work state.
Reclassify any flat mark remaining after deposit removal as possible scratch, pit, metal/mineral mark, discoloration, etching, or finish change; visibility alone does not authorize more scraping.
What went wrong — and the correct stop
A line follows the blade path. Stop. Preserve the surface and blade assembly for manufacturer or service assessment. Do not test a replacement beside the line.
The holder chatters, skips, rocks, or catches. Stop, safe it, and recheck the manual, surface state, seating, blade, residue, and cleaner. Do not improvise technique.
The residue smears or stretches. Stop and return to diagnosis; do not chase it with chemistry or heat.
The blade will not fit or sit evenly in the cooktop holder. Reject the pairing. Model 13110/13120 identity does not prove fit, and partial seating is not a compatibility test.
The mark remains but has no removable edge. Stop. Use the manual’s non-blade diagnostic or service; scratches, pits, etching, metal marks, and finish changes are different jobs.
A chip, pit, coating lift, print loss, haze, rainbow, or gloss change appears. Hard stop; document it and seek exact-model disposition.
A crack is found or grows. Stop all use and cleaning, keep people from using the appliance, and follow the exact manual’s shutdown/service direction. Do not press on the glass or perform a heat test.
Cleaner reached a control or seam. Stop. Do not energize the appliance to dry it. Follow the cleaner label and appliance service direction without improvised disassembly.
The hot-surface indicator or control state is not credible. Stop. No blade work continues under uncertain heat or electrical status.
Only the perimeter fragment remains. The blade branch is complete. Use the exact manual’s nonmetal method or leave it for authorized service; do not cross print, trim, gasket, control, coating, or an edge.
Cleanup, blade disposition, and return to service
Safe and unload only under current holder instructions. Hyde establishes individual wrapping for new blades, not used-blade handling or disposal. Follow holder/appliance manufacturers, cleaner label/SDS, facility policy, and local requirements; this guide authorizes no improvised rewrapping, taping, trash, sharps, recycling, or storage route. Establish an approved route before unloading.
Complete the exact cleaner-removal, polishing, rinsing/no-rinse, drying, and inspection sequence.
Return the appliance to service only when the exact manual’s stated conditions are met and all of these local observations are true:
no crack, chip, pit, coating/print change, new scratch, or uncertain mark remains unresolved;
the surface and appliance boundaries have reached the manufacturer’s required clean and dry state;
every control and indicator is in the required state;
no liquid entry, abnormal indicator, control fault, loose trim, or service stop occurred;
Never invent a burner-on test. Perform only a manual-required check; ordinary next use cannot diagnose an electrical, glass, or control concern. A stop event remains on service hold until manufacturer or authorized-provider closure.
