The 2024 Hyde catalog binds both exact listed models to the family construction statement: hardened and tempered spring-steel blades, two-piece hardwood handles, and double-rivet construction. Those facts do not establish blade alloy beyond “spring steel,” finish, edge or tip shape, blade thickness, straight or offset geometry, overall length, channel fit, coating compatibility, cleaner compatibility, permitted contact motion, or seal performance.

This guide does not select a cleaner, solvent, personal protective equipment, disposal route, storage duration, pressure, angle, or closing force.

The reviewed exact 41010 and 41060 research packets prove product identity, nominal width, and shared family construction. They do not provide a rim-cleaning procedure. The current Hyde product page has no working description or feature bullets. Neither exact packet identifies a can maker, can material, lid type, closure profile, rim-channel dimensions, approved coatings, compatible cleaners, or a closing and verification method.

The row title says “paint can's rim channel before resealing.” It does not establish that every object called a paint can has the same material, channel, lining, lid, gasket, seal path, or reusable closure. Nominal blade width alone cannot prove that the actual tip enters the actual channel without contacting, cutting, deforming, or stripping a closure surface.

There is one positive execution route:

Direct observation is a rejection gate only. Observation may establish that a tool does not fit, that residue or damage remains, that a lid cannot sit as instructed, or that a closed container visibly leaks. Observation cannot prove chemical compatibility, an undocumented cleaning motion, closure engagement, seal integrity, storage life, or future material fitness.

Preserve the as-found state

Before cleaning, moving, or closing anything:

Photograph the complete container and lid relationship from all accessible sides.

Photograph the rim and lid surfaces under strong light without inserting a probe.

Route A — execute the current exact instructions

Stage only the materials and controls named by the coating and container/closure instructions. Keep those instructions visible. Follow their sequence exactly for the actual residue condition, including any named tool, contact surface, motion, cleaner, wipe, limit, inspection point, and reject condition.

Which spatula should I use, 41010 or 41060?

History note

The defensible history for these exact tools is documentary, not speculative. Hyde's 2024 catalog lists model 41010 as a 3/8-inch Paint Spatula and 41060 as a 5/8-inch Paint Spatula beneath the shared spring-steel/hardwood/double-rivet family statement. Hyde's current Paint Spatulas page still lists both exact variants. No reviewed exact source dates the pattern, identifies an inventor, or documents either model as a can-rim tool.

That gap matters. A modern product identity and a registered application edge do not retroactively establish the edge geometry, the container interface, or the closure result. Any future historical claim about the spatula pattern, paint-can closure, or Hyde's first rim-cleaning use requires its own source and cannot be used as a maintenance instruction.
