  • Rouleau / Manchonen éponge de 9 1/2 po, 3 mm épaisseur, série Spécialité, tube en phénolique(99901, 99902, 99903)
CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Walls and high-volume field work. Even with more capacity than the 1/8″, a foam cover holds far less than a fiber nap and isn't built to cover a wall; the fiber covers own the field.
  • Texture. The continuous foam face bridges any texture and rides the peaks — knockdown, stucco, brick, block all defeat it. Foam is dead-smooth only.
  • The absolute thinnest-film finish. Where the deliverable is the single most leveled, closest-to-sprayed coat on a small critical flat panel, the thinner 1/8″ 99901 lays a marginally finer film; the 3/8″ trades a touch of that for volume. Match the cover to whether finish or coverage is the scarce resource.
  • Fast single heavy builds. More capacity is not license for a thick pass — foam runs and bubbles when overloaded. Thin coats, more of them.

THE JOB, THE REASON, AND THE BETTER TOOL

How the pros run it

01

Slow, always

Foam aerates coating when driven fast, and late-popping bubbles leave craters — the thicker wall doesn't change this rule. Thin coats despite the capacity. The 3/8″ wall's gift is fewer reloads, not a thicker film; build gloss and clear finishes in thin passes. Meter on the ramp. Foam saturates and releases fast; work the load out on the tray's ramp until the face is evenly damp, not dripping — the deeper wall can dump a heavy edge-bead if overloaded. Keep it out of fast latex. Foam's boundary is quick-skinning waterborne paints, which it bubbles when overworked; this cover's home is the slow-leveling finish coat. Clean-and-keep vs sacrifice: the phenolic core and thicker wall make this the more reusable foam in solvent work; still, weigh a solvent bath against foam's low replacement cost. Wrap airtight between coats; a dried foam face is done.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
Big smooth door or several panels in enamel — is this the one?
Yes: the thicker 3/8″ foam carries more coating for fewer reloads across a large smooth surface, with foam's fiber-free finish and a solvent-tolerant phenolic core (§2a).
99902 or 99901?
More coating and fewer reloads on a big smooth surface → the 3/8″ 99902; the thinnest, finest film on a small critical flat → the 1/8″ 99901 — noting the thickness conflict on the record (§5, §8).
Why "3/8″" if the official spec says 3 mm?
That is the open conflict: the family blurb prints 3 mm (≈1/8″) for all three SKUs, which can't also describe a genuinely 3/8″ cover — flagged and escalated for resolution before any hard thickness prints (§8).
What's the phenolic core for?
It resists the solvents in oil/alkyd/urethane coatings that dissolve cardboard cores — the reason a foam cover can work in those finishes (§1). Exact claim wording pending .
Can I do a textured wall or a whole room?
No — foam bridges texture and holds too little paint for volume; use a fiber cover (§4).
