dip only the tips, wipe both sides, and carry less than instinct says, because every excess drop runs the length of the handle. Work by feel: you often can't see the surface you're painting, so let the 45° bend register the bristle flat against the hidden face and read the contact through the handle. Recesses first, faces last: paint the hidden planes before the reachable ones and tip off toward the visible side so laps hide. Choke position: grip well back to use the reach; choking up defeats the tool. Bristle care: natural bristle is an oil brush — after oil/alkyd enamel clean it in mineral spirits, work it out, and dry it straight; if you must use it in latex, wash it fast in water before the bristle softens and sets splayed. Don't force a wide gap it isn't: 1-1/2″ of bristle is for narrow behind-obstacle strips; a wider surface within reach is a normal brush's job.
