Two strokes and tip off
the 3″ carries enough to cross a furniture face in a couple of overlapping laps — flow them on, then tip once with the point; don't rework. Keep the wet edge: at this width you're crossing real faces, so start each stroke into the previous wet lay to keep panels seamless. Lay, never scrub: the bubble rule holds harder as the width grows and the finish sets faster. Cut edges with the point: the chisel tip lays the panel-to-frame edges and the door edges without a separate tool. Solvent kills it: clean with water (water-based) or mild spirits (oil-based); never lacquer thinner or acetone. Retire on damage: a slumped, torn, or rounded wedge stops laying flat — foam is semi-disposable, and a good clear coat deserves a fresh one.

What's the 3″ foam best at?

Why size up from the 2″?
Three inches crosses a furniture face in two overlapping strokes before the edge sets; the 2″ makes you chase it (§1, §5).
Oil or water finish?
Both — foam is base-agnostic; only strong solvent (lacquer) is off-limits (§4).
It bubbles — why?
You're scrubbing; lay it on and tip off once with the point (§3).
