✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
- It is not a substitute for vacuuming or brushing — it is the step after those, and using it to pick up visible sanding piles wastes the cloth in one pass.
- It is not a general shop rag — the resin that makes it a tack cloth makes it wrong for wiping tools, hands, spills, or anything you'd reach for a wiper to do; that is the 95015/95016 knit wipers' world (§5).
- It is not for wiping a surface still wet with solvent (2b).
- And its treatment is not confirmed silicone-free — so it must not be sold as the guaranteed answer for the silicone-phobic fine-finisher; that buyer should verify or test.

THE JOB, THE REASON, AND THE BETTER TOOL
How the pros run it
01
Pressure
the lightest possible — own weight of a loose pad, no more (2b). Fold: open fully, bunch loose, refold to fresh faces constantly; gray = done lifting, starting to re-deposit. Sequence: vacuum/brush → tack → coat immediately; never tack early, never tack over wet solvent. Retirement: when every face is loaded gray. Storage: sealed bag or jar between uses (2f). The one thing it is not: a broom — loaded with heavy dust a vacuum should have taken, a tack cloth quits early and starts smearing. It is a finisher, used last, on an already-clean-looking surface.
Asked before buying
BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
Do I use this before or instead of vacuuming?
Before-and-after, never instead — vacuum or brush first, then tack (2a). It's a finisher, not a broom.
How hard do I press?
As lightly as possible — barely the cloth's own weight (2b). Pressing drives dust in and squeezes resin out, which causes fish-eyes.
Can I use it with water-based (waterborne) finishes?
The trade is split (2e): light touch always; some finishers use a barely-damp lint-free wiper instead under waterborne coatings. Test on scrap if unsure.
Is the treatment silicone-free?
Not stated in the maker's claims, so this page can't promise it. If you're silicone-averse, verify or test first.
How long does one cloth last, and how do I store it?
Refold to fresh faces until every face is gray; between sessions seal it in a bag or jar and the tack keeps for months (2b, 2f).
Metal and plaster too, or just wood?
All three — the maker names metal, wood, and plaster; the pre-coat dust pass is the same on each (2d).
