CHOOSE THIS WHEN
  • Stainless Steel Blades: Provides durability and resistance to rust.
  • Soft-Grip Handle: Ensures comfort and reduces hand fatigue.
  • Enhanced Durability: Stainless steel blades offer long-lasting performance.
CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Tape bedding — an 8" mounted-handle taping knife cannot hold pressure on tape's center line; bed tape with a 4"–6" joint knife.
  • The finish skim — an 8" is too narrow to feather a seam or butt joint to invisibility, and the extruded stiffness is the opposite of what a delicate final feather wants; for the finishing spring, use a flat-back knife, and for the width, step to 12"–14".
  • Delicate feather-to-zero work — if your patches need a whisper-light last wipe, the limber flat-back 09353 (or the SuperFlexx™ 06857 on small fields) does it better; the extruded back is a fill spine, not a finish spring.
  • Scraping — a finishing blade, not a demolition edge.

THE JOB, THE REASON, AND THE BETTER TOOL

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
Extruded or flat back — what's the difference?
Extruded is the stiffer spine (a flatter pass under heavy fill); flat keeps more blade spring (better feathering). This is the extruded one.
Why an 8" for filling?
It is the width whose feathered edges land on flat board outside the seam taper — the start of the coat progression, and the pass that pushes the most compound, which is why the stiff back suits it.
Can I set a nail with it?
Yes — the patented Hammer Head® end sets and dimples nails. (The Value Series™ 09312 cannot.)
Does it rust?
No — stainless blade, rivet-free construction. The blue-steel 09223 is the version that needs drying.
Good for the finish coat?
Not its strength — the stiff extruded back is a fill spine. For finish feathering step to the flat-back 09353, and for width to a 12"–14".
