Load light and even across the blade, not gobbed on the tip. Wipe every return on the rim so the blade going back to the wall is clean. Keep one edge clean as your loading edge and use the other to wipe, so you're always loading from unspoiled mud. Watch your working consistency — compound stiffens as it sits and skins at the surface; scrape the skin and re-temper with a little water rather than laying stiff mud that drags and tears. Wash it out before the compound sets — a pan with cured mud welded to the floor loses depth and never wipes right again; the 09060's plastic body rinses clean easily and, unlike bare steel, cannot rust if you leave it wet. That last point is the plastic pan's quiet advantage over the metal rungs: nothing to corrode, ever.
