Job: establish a controlled supply of standard and heavy-duty single-edge razor blades so every received package keeps its identity, every issue reaches an evidence-supported host or demand class, every return is dispositioned, and every used blade enters a separate sharps handoff.

A receiving-to-replenishment system for Hyde 13125, 13127, and 13135 hundred-count stock

This is an inventory-control guide, not a blade-use or blade-change procedure.

Time: one deliberate setup and receiving cycle, followed by a short transaction at receipt, issue, return, quarantine, audit, and reorder. No universal inspection or replenishment interval is stated; the operation sets those intervals from its own lead time, demand, environment, and discrepancy history.

Difficulty: moderate. Counting sealed packages is simple. Preserving exact model identity while blades move through a shop, vehicle, or crew—and closing the used-edge balance without inventing compatibility or consumption—is the real work.

Freeze the three stock identities before buying

“A box of razor blades” is not an order description. This row contains two gauges and three package identities. Give each its own stock code, location, and ledger line.

The unit received from a supplier is one identified hundred-count package. Record both the package count and its labeled blade count; do not silently convert a package into a case, carton, sleeve, or number of inner packs. The accepted records do not state an inner-pack composition for these three products. Those are different SKUs for a different stocking job.

The two .009" products carry the same accepted family claim. Their blade performance is not differentiated: 13125 versus 13135 is a package decision, not a quality grade. The 13127 is the only blade-level fork in this row, and the accepted difference is .012" thickness. Do not add a harder alloy, coating, edge treatment, service-life multiple, or “premium” claim.

Classify demand without inventing a usage rate

Build demand classes from the operation’s approved work, not from a generic trade persona:

Standard-gauge demand is work whose validated host and local procedure call for the standard .009" single-edge pattern. Feed that class from 13125 or 13135 according to the package control the stock point actually needs.

Heavy-gauge demand is work whose approved procedure specifically calls for the .012" 13127. A task being difficult, dirty, or frequent does not by itself authorize the heavy blade.

Unresolved demand is any request stated only as “razor blade,” any host without exact identity, any request for a substitute, or any task whose procedure does not specify the approved blade class. Hold the issue until the configuration owner resolves it.

Do not forecast from claims such as “one blade per pane,” “a pack per technician,” or “a hundred lasts a season.” No accepted service life or consumption rate exists. The only trustworthy demand rate is the operation’s own controlled history of issues, approved unused returns, quarantines, and missing blades, separated by task and host where those differences matter.

Build compatibility evidence before a blade reaches the shelf

A stock program needs to know what consumes the blade, but this guide does not create fitment from resemblance. Make the host matrix a controlled record with one row per exact host model and blade model.

Preserve the source statement and exact host model in the matrix; do not shorten the result to “fits all Hyde scrapers.”

A conventional expectation that both gauges fit is not a purchase or issue authorization. Keep 13127 off a host row until current exact-host instructions, a manufacturer statement, or the operation’s approved configuration process closes the fit.

Each approved host row should contain:

exact maker, model, and revision markings observed on the host;

exact stock model authorized: 13125, 13127, or 13135;

the evidence that establishes the blade pattern or gauge for that host;

the current blade-change instruction and its revision or retrieval date;

the task or material class for which the combination was approved;

any controlled fit/function witness required by the operation;

approver, date, and evidence handle;

open restrictions, including any “standard gauge only” or unresolved heavy-gauge fit.

One successful combination proves that combination. It does not prove every revision, every similar holder, or interchangeability between all three stock products. Reopen the row after a host revision, blade-source or package-identity change, retention repair, unexplained movement, or discrepancy between instructions and the physical tool.

Lay out a one-way stock flow

Use physical separation so a bookkeeping error cannot become a hand injury.

Sealed reserve: unopened, identified packages protected from crushing, water, oil, process chemicals, abrasive dust, and loose hardware.

Active clean stock: one controlled package at the issue point. Keep the product label attached and the package closed except during the approved issue motion.

Clean return pending inspection: unused material whose identity and custody may still be recoverable, separated from reserve until inspected.

Quarantine: damaged, corroded, contaminated, opened-with-uncertain-count, mismatched, or unidentified stock, plus any blade involved in a host-fit complaint or incident.

Used-blade containment: a distinct rigid sharps container at the change point, never beside fresh stock in an identical container.

Color or labels may support these zones, but construction and distance do the safety work. Never store bare blades in cups, magnetic trays, zipper bags, cardboard dividers, door pockets, aprons, or the bottom of a toolbox.

Shop and vehicle boundaries

Keep the reserve in a clean, dry, secured location where packages cannot open under impact or be confused with waste. In a vehicle, use a fixed or positively closed compartment outside loose cargo paths; an open box on a seat, dashboard, door pocket, or floor is not inventory control. Secure the active package and the used-blade container separately so braking, vibration, or a rollover cannot mix them.

Instead, inspect after water intrusion, chemical exposure, unusual heat or cold, package crushing, a vehicle incident, or any condition that may have changed closure, identity, corrosion, or contamination. Environmental uncertainty sends stock to quarantine; it does not get normalized by wiping the package.

Crew access should be limited to people trained on the local host matrix, issue record, clean-return rule, quarantine triggers, and used-blade handoff. Lock or otherwise control the supply where children, customers, untrained workers, or shared-vehicle occupants could reach it. This is an access-control decision by the operation, not a Hyde package claim.

Receive by identity, source, condition, and quantity basis

Set up the receiving record and rigid quarantine container before opening the shipping carton.

Match the physical package to the order

Read the model from the product package, not only the invoice or outer ship label. Match exact model, product name, hundred-count identity, and package description. A 13125 delivered against a 13135 order is a discrepancy even though both carry .009" blades; a 13127 delivered against either is also a gauge discrepancy. Do not receive “as equivalent” to close a transaction.

number of unopened packages accepted;

labeled quantity of 100 blades per accepted package;

GTIN, lot, date, or other trace markings actually visible;

“no supplier lot visible” when no lot is present;

package condition and storage location;

discrepancy, quarantine, and resolution references where applicable.

Do not invent a lot-number format or infer that two packages share a lot because they arrived together. Photograph markings when transcription could lose punctuation or distinguish similar packages.

Inspect without releasing blades

Look for a torn or defeated closure, crushing, puncture, wetting, oil or chemical contact, dirt inside the package, rust staining, visible corrosion, bent contents, a protruding edge, missing or unreadable identity, or evidence that the package was previously opened. For 13125, do not infer normal operation from the word “dispenser”; inspect the physical package and obtain its instructions before relying on any feed. For 13127, treat the contents as potentially unwrapped because accepted evidence does not close wrap status.

If an edge protrudes, stop hand handling. Isolate the entire package by the site’s sharp-recovery procedure and quarantine it. Do not push the blade back, shake the package, or open it to improve the count. If contamination is suspected, record what contacted the package and let the safety or waste owner classify it.

Receive only the quantity that is proved

An intact package may be received as one package with a labeled content of 100. Do not empty or hand-count blades to prove the label. Once a package is open, the ledger’s remaining-piece count is only as trustworthy as the approved issue mechanism and transaction record. If the count cannot be established without unsafe handling, record the container as open/count-unverified and quarantine or manage it under the operation’s approved conservative rule.

Release stock only after model, gauge class, package identity, condition, source, and quantity basis agree. An invoice proves a financial event; it does not prove physical condition or host fit.

Issue, return, and account for every edge

At issue, record the exact stock model, quantity issued in the unit the local mechanism can safely prove, recipient or crew, location, approved host or demand class, date/shift identifier, and the disposition expected for the outgoing blade. Keep 13125 and 13135 separate in the ledger even though their accepted .009" blade claim is the same; package performance and discrepancy history still belong to the physical SKU. Keep 13127 in its own gauge class.

Do not promise a one-at-a-time issue from 13125 until the observed package and instructions prove it. Do not invent a safe loose-blade issue from 13135. Do not open 13127 around a crew until the package-opening and extraction method is known, especially because wrap status is unresolved. If the approved method cannot preserve identity and control the edge, the package stays closed.

Return rules

An unopened, undamaged, fully identifiable package may return to sealed reserve after inspection and ledger reconciliation.

An unused .009" blade still in its original individual wrap may return to controlled active stock only if the operation’s custody and inspection procedure accepts it. “Looks new” is not enough.

An opened package with broken custody, an unknown remaining count, water or chemical exposure, or mixed models goes to quarantine.

A loose blade never returns to clean stock, regardless of apparent sharpness.

A 13127 blade does not return as an individual clean unit unless its identity, protection, and condition can be proved under the local procedure. The record does not authorize assuming an original wrap.

A used blade goes directly to the used-blade container. It never pauses in the clean-return or quarantine bin unless incident evidence requires a separate rigid, labeled evidence container.

Use two balances, not one. The usable-stock balance is:

beginning usable stock + accepted receipts + approved clean returns − controlled issues − quarantines − authorized write-offs = ending usable stock.

The outgoing-edge balance asks whether every issue that displaced an installed blade resolves as a captured used blade, an approved unused return, a quarantined host/blade assembly, or an open missing-sharp incident. Do not force the two balances to agree by assuming every issued blade was consumed or every missing blade reached waste.

Used-blade counts are a control signal, not disposal permission. The waste container’s construction, label, fill condition, movement, and final receiver depend on contamination, workplace rules, jurisdiction, and the receiving program. Clean industrial blades, blood-contaminated blades, and chemical- or regulated-residue blades may require different streams.

Set min, max, and reorder from local evidence

Do not invent “reorder at 20,” “keep two boxes per van,” or a blades-per-worker allowance. Freeze one counting unit for planning—normally unopened hundred-count packages plus a separately controlled active balance—and calculate from observed transactions.

For each model and stock point:

measure trustworthy net demand over representative periods: controlled issues minus approved unused returns;

separate standard and heavy demand, and split by crew, host, or task when that explains variation;

measure actual replenishment lead time from approved order to accepted receipt;

identify losses that are not demand: quarantine, corrosion, contamination, package damage, missing blades, and count uncertainty;

let the operation choose a reserve for lead-time variability and consequence of stockout;

set minimum/reorder point as expected net demand during the measured lead time plus that facility-owned reserve;

set maximum as the reorder point plus the amount needed to reach the next chosen review or ordering cycle, constrained by secure storage capacity and the operation’s willingness to hold traceable stock;

order only the amount needed to restore usable stock toward maximum after subtracting open purchase orders and excluding quarantined stock.

The formula supplies logic, not quantities. A new stock point without history starts with an explicitly provisional min/max chosen by the owner, then revises it after enough controlled cycles exist. Never disguise a guess as a Hyde recommendation.

A two-bin trigger may work: one active supply and one sealed reserve; opening the reserve creates the reorder event. The reserve size still comes from measured lead-time demand. For 13127, long quiet periods do not justify merging its balance into standard stock; separate identity matters more when demand is intermittent.

Review min/max after a crew-size or task change, new approved host, supplier lead-time change, stockout, package-format change, corrosion event, incident, or unexplained variance.

Audit the system and replenish

At each locally scheduled audit, prove:

every physical package maps to 13125, 13127, or 13135 and a receipt record;

each location contains only its labeled model and status;

reserve packages remain closed, legible, clean, dry, and undamaged;

active issue preserves model identity and does not expose loose blades;

13127 remains visibly separated from .009" stock;

no 13125 or 13135 package has acquired an invented performance distinction;

host-matrix evidence remains current and no 13127 fit was inferred;

clean returns, quarantine, and used sharps are physically separate;

usable-stock and outgoing-edge balances reconcile or carry named discrepancies;

the used-blade container is within its program-defined condition and has a confirmed handoff owner;

min/max inputs use current observed demand and lead time;

purchase orders restore the exact model, not an unapproved “equivalent.”

Replenishment closes only when the physical receipt passes identity and condition checks and the usable ledger changes. An order placed, shipment notice, invoice, or package sitting in quarantine is not usable stock.

What goes wrong—and the response

The count is short. Treat it as both inventory variance and missing-sharp risk. Stop silent adjustments, isolate likely locations, prohibit hand-sweeping, and open a discrepancy or incident.

The count is long. Look for unrecorded returns, mixed models, unopened packages counted as pieces twice, or an active container omitted from the prior audit. Do not erase the overage.

13125 and 13135 were merged because both are .009". Restore separate SKU balances. Same accepted blade claim does not make package identity irrelevant.

13127 was issued because it looked sturdier. Quarantine the host/blade combination until exact heavy-gauge fit and task authorization are proved.

A package is rusty, wet, crushed, dirty, or chemically exposed. Quarantine it. Do not clean, oil, rewrap, or issue the contents as new; no approved recovery method or storage limit is established.

The active package jams or exposes multiple blades. Close access and quarantine the package.

Returned blades are mixed with fresh stock. Quarantine the affected stock. Appearance cannot reconstruct custody.

Used blades appear in general trash or a vehicle pocket. Stop issue at the affected point until rigid collection, training, and a confirmed downstream handoff are restored.

Similarity, shared count, or nominal pattern does not close interchangeability.

Reorders always arrive early or late. Recalculate from measured net demand and actual lead time; inspect record quality before changing the reserve.

Where this guide stops

That is resale or whole-pack issue inventory. This page does not link those products, treat any of its three hundreds as composed of 5-packs, or teach retail facing, counter velocity, or merchandising.

It is also not a cutting guide. It does not teach how to scrape glass, remove adhesive, cut cartons, scrape gaskets, hold a blade, set an angle, or decide when an edge is dull. Those jobs own surface, motion, and failure technique.

Short history footnote

The rib-backed single-edge pattern was established in the early twentieth century and later migrated from shaving into industrial work; the full sourced lineage belongs to the line document. The important history at this page’s grain is operational: once a disposable edge became shop supply by the hundred, the container, stock record, issue point, and return path became parts of the tool system. The handle may stay in service; the edge moves through receiving, work, and waste. Inventory control is what keeps that movement from becoming anonymous.

Do not add individual wrapping, alloy, coating, edge difference, host compatibility, or service life.

It does not establish a dispenser or used-sharps function.

Do not generalize standard-pattern evidence to every holder or .012" fit.

Fresh-stock packaging is not automatically a sharps container.
