Is this the right tool for your job?

CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
  • Any job specified by fabric rather than nap.
  • The 99542 is not the right pick for epoxy floors where a shed fiber becomes permanent texture, or for critical sheen walls that need near-spray flatness. For those jobs, use a lint-free cover or a finish cover specifically made for that level of finish.
  • Those jobs have covers with stated constructions (woven for epoxy, microfiber for finish); use them.
  • Texture past a light orange-peel. 3/8″ bridges real knockdown, sand-finish, brick, and block — the 1/2″ (99543) and deeper naps own those. This is a nap limit, independent of fabric.
  • Dead-smooth gloss work. The shortest naps and the finest fibers lay the flattest gloss film; a 3/8″ is a wall nap, not a cabinet nap.

THE JOB, THE REASON, AND THE BETTER TOOL

How the pros run it

01

De-lint first

mandatory for any cover whose construction is unknown; you cannot assume this one is a low-shed woven, so treat it as capable of shedding and remove the loose fiber before it meets paint. Light hand pressure — a correctly napped cover works at the weight of your hand; pressing to force coverage mats the pile and squeezes fat edges regardless of fabric. Reload on sound — full-and-quiet loaded, hiss starved, drips overloaded. Wash-or-toss, decided conservatively: because you can't confirm this is a premium keep-and-reuse fabric, judge reuse by how it washes on the day — if it releases paint cleanly and the pile recovers, keep it; if it mats or sheds, treat it as a consumable. Wash until the water runs clear, dry standing on end. Overnight: wrap airtight, no air means no drying.

Asked before buying

BUYER QUESTIONS, ANSWERED BEFORE YOU ORDER
Just painting ordinary walls — will it do?
Yes: it's a 3/8″ cover, the standard wall nap, and that job is fully authorable and firm (§2a).
Is it better than a cheap General Purpose cover?
Unproven on the record — both have undocumented fabric, and the Ultra Tek carries less captured evidence, not more. Pay up only when the fabric is confirmed to deliver something (§5) .
Can I use it for epoxy or critical gloss?
No — those jobs are specified by fabric, and the fabric is the blank. Use covers with stated constructions (§4).
What's it made of?
No source of any tier says — not the fiber, not the construction (§1). The likeliest resolver is Richard's own spec or the physical cover.
Will this page ever say more?
The moment Richard's Ultra Tek fabric is captured, the finish-tier sections open — the nap grain is already fully written; the fabric grain is one spec away.
