The bail goes fully home in the hook's curve before weight transfers; the one-second tug before release is non-negotiable. Purchase choice. Set the hook where its bearing is full and square, not on a corner or a taped edge; if the hook can rock on its purchase, move it. Match the heights. Hook just below shoulder height of the working stance — reloads stay a wrist motion and the pail never crowds the stroke. Keep the charge shallow. One-piece steel has no parts to fail, but hard abuse leaves evidence: a hook loaded far past pail duty can spread at its open curves, and a bail seat whose curve has visibly opened is a hook to retire. Can I hang a 5-gallon bucket from these?
No — Hyde's own description says not recommended for 5-gallon pails. Decant into a working pail and hang the charge; the five stays on the ground.
Will my pail's bail fit?
Compatibility beyond the 5-gallon exclusion is unstated in the claims — including the 45115 pairing — so check your bail in the hook before trusting it at height. The seat-and-tug ritual is the field test.
Why two in the package?
Two ladders, or one plus the spare that small steel tools always eventually need, or two painters. One pail needs one hook; the second is logistics.
Do they really open paint cans?
