The buyer who strokes with the middle two inches of a 3-1/8" blade bought the wrong knife; heel-to-tip shear is the point. Downhill always: long strokes punish grain misreads harder — a full-length cut against rising grain dives deep before you can stop it. Choke up deliberately for detail (finger on spine, thumb on work) instead of switching knives mid-thought. Power comes from the body, not the wrist: chest-lever and shoulder for roughing, wrist only for steering. Sharp is a safety property: the force a dull long blade needs is force you cannot steer.
