Read the fan for:
heavy or light edges;

Trigger only while the head is moving

Translate—do not arc
Hold the pole in a stable carry and walk the lane so the tip travels parallel to the ceiling. Do not plant the feet and sweep the pole like a pendulum. A sweep changes both distance and angle: the center of the arc approaches the ceiling while the ends fall away, producing a heavy center and dry ends.
Maintain the tested tip-to-surface relationship by moving the whole body under the pass. Overlap by reading the fan

Keep one wet edge alive

Wet-edge discipline does not mean racing. It means that preparation removes avoidable interruptions and the operator uses repeatable motion. If the coating begins to tack before the next overlap, stop trying to blend it with extra material. Allow the system to reach its specified correction point, then repair by the coating manufacturer's method.
Reposition without overreach
At the end of each pass:
release the trigger while still moving;
engage the trigger lock;
bring the pole to the planned carry position without crossing an occupant, helper, unmasked surface, or live service;
look down, confirm the next step and hose path, then move;
re-establish stance, head visibility, hose slack, and fan-square geometry before unlocking.
Never walk backward on memory. Turn or side-step only within the cleared lane while looking at the floor path. If hose tension changes the head angle, stop and restage the hose; do not counter it by leaning farther.
Read back before the coating closes
At planned safe intervals, lock and view the field from the doorway and raking-light positions. Look for:
alternating wet/dry bands indicating inconsistent overlap or angle;
heavy bars at pass starts or stops;
a narrow heavy stripe from working too close;
a broad dry, rough band from working too far away or losing atomization;
tails, spit, pulsing, or a changed fan;
shadowed misses beside fixture recesses;
fog escaping containment;
coating on a service or surface that should have remained protected.
Separate application defects from system or safety faults. Correct a miss only within the coating's rules. A changed fan, leak, loose mount, containment breach, boundary entry, service uncertainty, or failed visibility requires a safe stop.
Recovery: defects and unsafe conditions
Pattern tails, fingers, split, pulsing, or spit
Lock, lower, and follow the equipment procedure. Do not raise pressure reflexively or wipe the tip. Check coating, filtration, tip, blockage, pump delivery, and equipment. Relieve pressure before fluid-path work; retest low before returning overhead.
Heavy center, light ends, or diagonal wet/dry fan

Leak, loose connection, creeping pole, lost head angle, or failed mount
Stop triggering, lock, control and lower the pole without approaching the leak, shut down, and execute full pressure relief. Remove the setup from service until the responsible qualified person identifies the fault and restores a documented compatible system. Tape, a harder twist, a bypassed guard, or an improvised clamp is not recovery.
Person enters, service state changes, footing is obstructed, or visibility is lost
Stop and lock immediately. Do not “finish the pass” through a person, live-service uncertainty, a hose loop, failing light, or blind fan. Restore the exclusion, service control, operating lane, and visibility; then repeat the relevant stopped check before resuming.
Suspected injection injury
Stop the job and obtain emergency medical care immediately. State “high-pressure injection injury” and identify the material. Preserve the safety data and equipment information for responders. The room, coating, and cleanup wait.
Shutdown, cleanup, and return to service
Close the system deliberately
End at the planned boundary, lock, and follow the manufacturer's shutdown and pressure-relief procedure. Verify the required zero-energy state before removing any fluid-path or pole-mounted component.
Lower and disassemble at a controlled work height. Do not use the quick-release or touch the head while pressure remains.
