A Quickreach Spray Pole
It does not authorize opening either mount, replacing internal pieces, disturbing an unidentified seal, or inventing a deeper repair. If they disagree, stop and obtain a model-specific ruling from Hyde.

Job: diagnose a worn QuickReach pole, replace the correct complete mount when the current instructions authorize it, and prove retention and control before return to service.
Time: one controlled service session; no universal duration or service interval is established.
Difficulty: simple connector work behind a strict identity, pressure-relief, and return-to-service gate.
They are alternative complete mount assemblies for different operating arrangements, not a two-piece kit and not an instruction to install both.
This guide supplies no substitute tool list, solvent recipe, lubricant, torque, pressure, or PPE selection.
Do not clean, loosen, pull, or order anything until the identity card is complete.

The current manual closes an older local research gap: it depicts both the QuickReach gun mount and RVT spray mount as removable accessories that use the pole’s connector and locking-lever interface. Its maintenance note says a mount is removed only for replacement or to switch to another Hyde accessory.
That boundary also prevents a common parts mistake. The 28730 is the mount that carries a conventional spray gun in the QuickReach gun-mount arrangement. The 28720 is the RVT spray mount used for the RVT arrangement. They may fit the same three host poles, but they do not become interchangeable in purpose, and they are not assumed to contain the same components. Select the arrangement already authorized for the exact rig. If the received part, label, connector, or instructions do not agree with the order and host record, quarantine it and resolve the mismatch with Hyde.
Record before action: host model and identifying marks; installed mount type; replacement model and package identity; current manual title/document number/revision; pump and gun identities; symptom; visible damage; and whether the pole or mount has been altered. Photograph the received and installed assemblies without dismantling them.
Diagnose the failure before calling it mount wear
Airless equipment can injure through a stream too small to look serious. Any suspected fluid penetration of skin is an immediate medical emergency. Stop work, seek emergency care now, say “high-pressure injection injury,” identify the fluid, and provide its SDS. Never feel for a leak, stop one with a hand or rag, or place any body part near a tip or suspected pinhole.
Sort the complaint with the equipment stopped and made safe:
Leak, spit, pulsing, or an unstable fan: treat this as a fluid-delivery fault, not proof of mount wear. The QuickReach pole carries the hose externally; coating does not pass through the pole body. A leaking gun, hose, connection, or RVT fluid-path component belongs under its own current instructions. Do not order 28730 merely because fluid appeared near it.
Gun or head movement: inspect for a release button that is not seated, a loose locking collar, an incorrectly seated connector, a loose gun clamp, paint buildup, or damaged hardware. Movement that remains after exact cleaning and setup is a retention failure.
Remote trigger is hard to pull, will not pull, or the gun will not shut off: stop service use. Hyde’s troubleshooting table routes these symptoms among hose-clipping, cable hold-down adjustment, head setup, gun position, paint on the cable, standoff adjustment, a faulty cable/remote trigger, or a faulty gun. A mount purchase without that diagnosis may replace the wrong object.
Mount will not release: the manual names failure to depress the pole locking lever and paint buildup between the pole and connector housing. It does not authorize prying or striking.
Mount will not enter: the manual names wrong connector-housing orientation, failure to depress the locking lever during insertion, incomplete connector engagement, or a loose telescoping collar. Resistance is diagnostic evidence, not a request for more force.
Pole will not telescope: looseness or overtightening at the locking collar, an engaged trigger, a jammed latch, a bent tube, paint buildup, tube damage, or latch damage may be responsible. Hyde explicitly says not to push a jammed extension tube into the pole because that can worsen the jam.
Ratcheting while adjusting length: the manual says some ratcheting can be normal, especially on longer models, if the pole otherwise functions properly.
The pump being off does not prove the hose is depressurized. Before installing or removing a spray gun, Hyde requires the fluid-delivery pump to be powered down and pressure released from the fluid hose according to the pump and gun manufacturers’ instructions. Use their exact pressure-relief procedure; this guide does not restate or generalize it.
For replacement service, apply the same fail-closed state before touching the mount: pump made safe; pressure-relief procedure completed; gun trigger locked; tip kept away from every person; electrical and ignition controls established by the controlling instructions; and the fluid identified. The RVT system’s ability to transfer between normal operating positions without powering down is not permission to replace worn hardware live.
Hyde’s 2024 manual says that after each use the QuickReach pole and gun mount are wiped with a cloth dampened with water or mineral spirits, then wiped dry with a clean cloth. It says not to immerse or soak any component in cleaning fluid. Which of those two named liquids is compatible with the actual coating, gun, pump, hose, replacement part, workplace, and waste rules must be resolved before use; the manual’s two options are not permission to mix them or choose blindly.
No other solvent, lubricant, compressed air, soak, abrasive, heat, or picking method is authorized by this guide. Wear the protective equipment required by the exact product instructions, coating SDS, and site program; no universal list is supplied here.
Prepare a clean bench and account for every component
Collapse and place the safe pole on a clean, stable bench where the mount cannot fall and the locking lever can be seen. Keep removed coating, grit, and loose hardware out of the connector opening. Do not service the pole overhead, on a ladder, or while someone holds it.
Create three fields on the record:
Received: the replacement assembly and every item actually supplied with it, counted from the package without assuming what “should” be present.
Removed: the complete old assembly and any separately removed item expressly named by the current instructions.
Retained on host: the pole, locking-lever interface, and every host component that remains in place.
Use a before photograph and a simple item-by-item tally. Do not infer seals, springs, pins, washers, fasteners, valve pieces, filter pieces, or orientation from another version, an online image, or the old part. If the current received instructions name or depict a loose component that is absent, duplicated, damaged, or different, stop. Do not cannibalize the old assembly or substitute an unlisted part.
Remove only the complete mount Hyde authorizes
This is the full disassembly allowed by the current QuickReach manual at this interface:
Verify the safe state again and keep the mount supported.
Depress the locking lever on the spray pole.
Pull the complete installed mount from the pole.
Release the locking lever.
Nothing in that sequence authorizes opening the removed mount. If it does not withdraw, stop. Recheck that the correct locking lever is fully depressed and look for the paint buildup Hyde identifies at the connector housing. Clean only as Section 3 authorizes. Do not twist harder, pry, hammer, grind, drill, file, heat, or enlarge the connector or hole. Persistent refusal means the host interface or mount needs Hyde-directed repair, not improvisation.
Place the removed assembly in its accounted field. Inspect without dismantling: connector damage, deformation, contamination, altered surfaces, missing external features, or a mismatch against the replacement and current instruction illustrations. A difference is a stop condition, not permission to make the new part resemble the old.
Install the selected complete replacement mount
Hyde titles this manual operation “Installing the QuickReach and RVT Spray Mounts.” Apply it to the identified 28730 or 28720 complete assembly:
Depress the locking lever on the spray pole.
Align the hole in the replacement mount connector with the locking lever on the pole.
Fully insert the connector into the pole.
Release the locking lever.
Test that the connector is seated properly.
That is the authorized connector sequence. There is no torque value, seal order, lubricant, fastener recipe, or internal assembly step to add.
Use no-force fit throughout. The connector must enter under the documented lever-and-alignment condition. If it stops, rocks, binds, needs leverage, or leaves the hole and lever misaligned, remove it only by the documented removal sequence and diagnose identity, orientation, contamination, or damage. Never modify the host or replacement. A part that cannot seat correctly is incompatible or defective until Hyde proves otherwise.
For a 28730 gun-mount arrangement, continue only with the current gun-installation section. The manual requires the correct two- or four-finger setup, the gun mount pointing in the same direction as the trigger, the safe and depressurized gun handle held against the front of the clamp, the clamp thumbscrew tightened firmly without overtightening, the fluid hose clipped to the pole, and the standoff positioned approximately 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) from the front/bottom edge of the trigger before its wing nut is secured. Those are manual values and relationships, not general dimensions. If the current supplied mount or gun cannot achieve them, it fails fit-up. Do not bend, offset, shim, or rework it.
For a 28720 RVT mount, this guide ends at the complete connector installation. Any valve, filter, hose, seal, or fluid-path connection requires the current RVT system instruction that names it. The retail page’s family-level description is not an internal assembly drawing.
Verify retention and controls while everything remains static
Before any energy or pressure:
Confirm the connector is fully seated, its hole is captured by the released locking lever, and the mount does not withdraw, rotate, or shift under a gentle hand check.
Confirm the head release button is seated where that operating arrangement uses it.
Confirm the locking collar is locked and the pole holds its selected length.
Follow Hyde’s maintenance check: all externally accessible screws and nuts are tight under their own instructions; all components are positioned within their working range and secured.
For 28730, confirm the gun is held firmly, hose is in its clips, standoff has the manual relationship to the trigger, the trigger lock works, and the remote control returns without sticking or holding the gun trigger open.
For 28720, verify only externally observable retention and the checks its current RVT instructions authorize. Do not claim an internal seal is sound from a dry inspection.
Cycle only the non-fluid mechanical actions the exact instructions permit, slowly and under full view. Any click without engagement, delayed return, creep, movement, interference, missing control range, or need to grip harder is a failed static witness. Return to the safe state and correct only through the exact troubleshooting instruction. Repeated failure removes the assembly from service.
Run an authorized low-risk witness
A dry check cannot prove leak-free pressured service. A pressured witness is allowed only when the exact pump, gun, mount/RVT, coating, and site instructions authorize it and define setup, pressure relief, tip/guard, ventilation, ignition, PPE, target, and pattern-test requirements. This guide supplies no pressure value or pressure-test procedure.
Use a protected, fully visible target at ordinary low height, not overhead or at full extension. Clear everyone from the tip, pole sweep, hose, and potential leak zone. Keep the trigger locked while energizing. Observe from a safe position for unexpected movement or visible leakage; never search with a hand, cloth, glove, or body part. Then perform only the manufacturers’ authorized pattern/function witness.
Pass requires all of the following: mount remains seated and motionless; pole length and head position hold; trigger actuation and release are complete and repeatable; gun shuts off; hose remains controlled; no visible leak, spit, or uncontrolled discharge occurs; and the system returns to its safe state through the exact pressure-relief procedure.
Leak or spray where none belongs: maintain tip direction toward the authorized exclusion/target, release the control, stop the pump by its emergency procedure, isolate the area, and run the exact pressure-relief procedure. Never tighten, wipe, or feel a live leak. Identify whether the source is gun, hose, connector, RVT component, or another fluid-path object. Reassemble only under the exact instruction for that object. A repeated or unidentified leak is a no-return condition.
Mount movement or release: stop, depressurize, remove by the documented sequence, and recheck identity, connector orientation, hole/locking-lever alignment, paint buildup, and damage. If a clean, undamaged, exact part will not retain, quarantine the part and host. Do not increase force or modify either.
Gun continues spraying after trigger release: keep it directed at the authorized target/exclusion while the pump is stopped and the system is made safe. Hyde’s manual routes this symptom to standoff adjustment, cable/remote-trigger fault, or gun fault.
Pole jam, bend, scar, damaged latch, altered mount, or missing component: remove the pole from service. A new mount does not cure structural damage. Repair only if Hyde’s current instructions authorize the exact repair; otherwise replace or return the affected equipment.
Close the component account: installed assembly present; old assembly tagged and segregated; every received/removed item reconciled; no unexplained remainder. Record host and replacement models, instruction revision, symptom and diagnosis, cleaning medium actually authorized and used, static checks, witness conditions without inventing a rating, result, failures/corrections, service date, and person performing the work. This is a service record, not a manufacturer service interval.
Return to service only when identity and compatibility are closed, component accounting balances, the connector and controls pass static verification, the authorized low-risk witness passes, pressure relief and cleanup are complete, the pole passes Hyde’s pre-use inspection, and no unresolved leak, movement, trigger, damage, or instruction conflict remains. Otherwise label it out of service.

The history footnote
QuickReach’s replaceable-head design is the equipment story in miniature: the durable pole remains, while the working arrangement at its connector can be renewed or changed. Hyde’s current patent register associates QuickReach models 28670, 28680, 28690, and replacement mount 28730 with U.S. Patent 6,378,922, “Length-Adjustable Extension Pole With Self-Adjusting Actuating Cable.” The service lesson is less romantic but more useful: preserve the host by replacing an authorized complete assembly, not by improvising inside a pressure-adjacent mechanism.
