Start with identity, not the symptom

Do not begin by ordering the part whose name sounds like the complaint. Begin with the equipment.

Record the parent item number, model, serial number, revision or date code where present, owner or asset number, gun identity, and every legible label. Photograph the assembled condition without moving a live or uncertain component. Record the coating or other material presently in the system, the last known operating state, the last completed cleanup, the reported symptom, who observed it, and whether anyone already attempted a repair.

Then obtain the current instructions for that exact identity. Do not disassemble it to discover how it goes together.

The accepted product facts narrow the search:

RVT System 28700 or Spray Gun 28710, with a suspected valve need: 28715 is within its stated fitment.

RVT System 28700, with a confirmed conventional QuickReach replacement-mount need: 28730 is within its stated fitment.

Lock out injection, leak, and trapped-pressure exposure

Airless equipment can inject coating or cleaning fluid through skin from a tip, an opened connection, or a pinhole leak. The entry mark may look minor while material spreads through tissue; medical literature treats this as a time-critical surgical emergency (High-Pressure Injection Injury of the Hand — PMC; High-pressure injection of paint into the hand — PMC).

The service boundary is therefore absolute:

Establish an exclusion around the equipment. No spraying, production use, or casual handling continues while a leak, control fault, unknown pressure state, or incomplete assembly is under review.

Follow the complete pressure-relief procedure for the exact parent equipment. Pump-off alone is not proof of relief. A trigger lock alone is not pressure relief. This guide supplies no substitute sequence.

Apply the site’s authorized lockout, identification, and zero-energy verification. Record who performed and witnessed it.

Never feel for a leak, block it with a hand or rag, tighten a live connection, wipe a live tip, or place any body part in front of an opening.

Do not open a fluid-path component merely to inspect it. Opening waits until exact instructions admit the task and the qualified person verifies the safe state.

If fluid may have entered skin, stop the job and obtain emergency medical treatment immediately. Say “high-pressure injection injury,” name the injected material, and provide its safety data. Do not wait for pain, swelling, or a larger wound.

A continuing drip, weep, mist, pinhole stream, unexpected discharge, or wet connection is not a housekeeping issue. Isolate, relieve by the exact procedure, and route it as a pressure-system fault. Cleanup begins only after the safe state is verified and only by the authorized method.

Diagnose symptom to service lane—never symptom straight to SKU

The first diagnosis assigns a lane. It does not authorize a part change.

Flow or shutoff symptoms

Unexpected flow after release, hesitation, spitting, or a trigger-to-flow response that changed may place the valve lane on the hypothesis list. If the identified equipment is 28700 or 28710, model 28715 is a claimed-fit replacement candidate. Follow the current troubleshooting tree.

Visible leakage raises the urgency but does not make the valve the answer. Record where the leak first appears without touching it, relieve the system, and let the current instruction distinguish connection, hose, gun, valve, or other fault. If the leak source is not positively identified, the system remains out of service.

Mechanical support or engagement symptoms

Movement, looseness, failed engagement, failure to hold a documented position, or changed release behavior may place the mount lane on the list. Inspect qualitatively only in the verified safe state and only as current instructions permit.

For parent system 28700, 28730 has an explicit compatibility claim. Model 28720 is the RVT Replacement Spray Mount. Never assign orientation, combine parts, or convert one arrangement to the other from appearance. Resolve the exact assembly and revision through the current manual, its authoritative part diagram, or Hyde.

Contamination can imitate wear. Dried material, foreign matter, or damaged packaging may explain binding or poor engagement, but this guide does not prescribe a solvent, scraping method, soak, lubricant, compressed air, or restoration technique. Use only the cleaning and disposition route authorized for the exact component. A part that cannot be cleaned and inspected by an approved route remains rejected; force is not diagnosis.

Restriction, unstable delivery, or contamination symptoms

An irregular pattern, reduced delivery, repeated blockage, or visible debris may put the equipment’s filtration and contamination-control lane on the list. Cracked, distorted, impact-damaged, corroded, incomplete, repeatedly loosening, or otherwise suspect equipment may be outside a parts change.

Receive and quarantine replacement parts cleanly

Receiving is the first service operation because contamination or identity loss introduced here can survive to the pressure circuit.

Create one receipt record per part. Capture supplier, order reference, received date, Hyde model, SKU or GTIN where present, label text, package condition, quantity actually received, and the equipment or stock location for which it was requested. Photograph the sealed label and any damage. Do not claim contents beyond what can be accounted for from the package and current instruction.

Place each receipt in one of four states:

Fit hold: identity is clear, but the equipment/revision join is not.

Contamination hold: packaging is open, wet, dirty, shedding, chemically exposed, mixed with returned parts, or otherwise unable to protect service cleanliness.

Reject/return review: wrong identity, damage, missing traceability, or conflict with the order or current instructions.

Do not move a held part into a clean drawer “temporarily.” Physically segregate it, label the reason, and prevent issue. Keep old, returned, and new parts separate. Do not wash a questionable new part into acceptability with an invented chemistry.

The 28715, 28720, 28730, and 28740 are separate identities. Never bundle them in one unlabelled bag, preassemble them, or advertise them as a kit unless an authoritative source explicitly defines that kit and its contents.

Set a clean bench without inventing the service method

The bench supports the authorized procedure; it does not replace it.

Use a controlled area separated from spraying, sanding, grinding, open coating, dirty washout, and ordinary tool repair. Clear the prior job. Clean the surface by the site’s approved bench method, allow it to reach the required condition, and cover it until service begins. Admit only the exact current instructions, identified replacement part, parent assembly, authorized tools and consumables, clean component trays, labels, and the permitted recording device.

Create physical lanes:

new/verified, unopened;

in-process parts accounted for;

completed assembly awaiting witness.

Never place a new component in the removed-part tray. Never use an old component as the unrecorded container for small items. If the authorized procedure exposes openings, protect them only by the method and materials it specifies; this guide does not invent caps, plugs, cloths, tape, or purging.

At the start, photograph or record the assembled condition and identity marks allowed by policy. Build the component account from the current instruction and what is actually observed. At every authorized removal, record the component identity or description, condition, source position only if the instruction establishes it, and its destination.

Beyond the RVT valve and inline filter expressly stated for 28720, do not infer that a replacement package contains seals, fasteners, or another secondary item. Do not reuse, replace, lubricate, orient, tighten, or discard such an item unless the current procedure says what it is and what to do with it.

Run a qualified inspect–change–witness workflow

With the verified safe state established, the qualified person performs only the qualitative checks admitted by current instructions: identity, completeness against the authoritative diagram, visible cleanliness, damage, unintended movement, seating or engagement where documented, and evidence of leakage or prior modification. No improvised pressure, force, dimensional, electrical, or chemical test is added.

The inspection ends in a written disposition:

no part change authorized; correct a separately identified cause by its procedure;

exact part change authorized;

cleaning or deeper inspection authorized by a named procedure;

manufacturer decision required;

Before opening the assembly, read back the exact parent identity, replacement model, instruction and revision, safe-state witness, bench state, and component account. One qualified person performs the documented change while a second qualified person witnesses where the site or instruction requires it.

Follow the current sequence exactly. This guide intentionally gives no orientation, order, seals, torque, tool list, chemistry, pressure, adjustment, or acceptance value. Build spares and min–max control from evidence

Do not invent a universal spare quantity. Set local minimum and maximum levels from the actual installed base, proven model/revision fit, consequence of downtime, replenishment lead time, historical qualified consumption, planned maintenance, storage controls, and approved reserve policy.

Use this logic:

Eligible demand: only equipment for which the part’s exact fit and required mount arrangement are proven. A pole whose exact identity, revision, or Gun Mount versus RVT Mount requirement is unresolved contributes no model-specific demand until resolved.

Minimum: the locally approved quantity needed to cover expected qualified consumption during replenishment time plus the organization’s approved critical reserve. The owner sets both inputs; this guide supplies neither.

Reorder point: when usable, unallocated stock reaches the approved minimum after subtracting quarantined, damaged, reserved, or traceability-deficient pieces.

Maximum: the approved ceiling that covers the next buying cycle without exceeding storage life, traceability, revision, obsolescence, or carrying-risk controls. No service life or shelf life is assumed.

Maintain a transaction log: receipt, hold, release, issue, installed asset, removed-part disposition, return, rejection, and balance. Separate physical count from usable count. A part in quarantine is not a spare. A part with lost identity is not a spare. A model that fits one parent by claim is not pooled to another by convenience.

Trend failures by symptom, confirmed cause, parent identity, revision, installed part, and post-service result. Do not turn calendar age alone into a replacement interval, and do not turn one failure into a predicted part life.

If service does not restore the named acceptance result, return to a safe hold. Preserve the record, removed part, contamination evidence, witness observations, and instruction used. Ask what changed between the failed and expected states; do not immediately install another part.

Recover only through a newly authorized path: correct a confirmed setup error, address contamination by an approved method, replace a separately diagnosed failed component, obtain updated instructions, or route the assembly to Hyde or qualified service. After any recovery, repeat the complete component account and witness process.

Disposition follows the coating, cleaning material, component, site, and applicable waste rules. This guide does not classify the material or prescribe disposal.

Return the system to service

Return requires a complete record, not merely a successful trigger pull:

exact parent, gun, and installed-part identities recorded;

current instruction and revision retained;

pressure-relief/lockout and service authorization documented;

component account reconciled;

holds, contamination, and unexpected findings closed or explicitly transferred;

authorized test completed with the named qualitative and instruction-owned results;

no unresolved leak, movement, control, delivery, or fit symptom;

tools, waste, removed parts, temporary controls, and bench materials accounted for;

equipment cleaned, stored, and released only as its instructions require;

responsible qualified person and witness sign the disposition.

Observe the first authorized operation and the post-operation condition. A unit that passes on the bench but leaks, shifts, or behaves unexpectedly in use returns immediately to hold.

Graco traces the first commercial airless sprayer to the 1958 Hydra-Spray, which atomized coating through fluid pressure at a shaped tip rather than by compressed air in the gun (Graco — company history).
