Never scrape the gap with wire, a drill bit, knife point, or abrasive. Changing geometry changes tape coating.
If a hardened deposit will not release through approved cleaning, stop and seek manufacturer service guidance.
Clean the outlet and tape path
Follow the paper route from roll compartment to outlet. Remove compound strings, paper fibers, and grit.
Protect any edge used for tape feed or separation. The record does not verify a cutter or tear feature; do not sharpen one by assumption.
Pass only the approved brush/cleaning aid through the path. Do not pull abrasive cord or metal through it.
Inspect for damage that could tear or steer tape.
Clean the roll compartment without soaking it
